Cisco vpn client 5.0.07.0410 on windows 7 PC does not show application window, minimizes to tray and does not launch and hard to figure what is wrong with application. Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0410: Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. Software Installation Guide. Why Desktop Central? Product Overview. Cisco Systems VPN Client 5.0.07.0410: Version: 5.0.7: Platform: WindowsVendor: Cisco.

We have a vpn connection with our State. They have informed us we need to upgrade our vpn client to be compatible. No problem, right?

It seems that the version of Cisco VPN client we are trying to install may not be compatible with Windows Server 2003. This server is giving me issue. It had vpnclient-win-msi-4.8.01.0300-k9 installed. It worked just fine. I’m trying to install vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.07.0410-k9. When I do, it hangs about 2/3 of the way into the install. I try to reinstall Version vpnclient-win-msi-4.8.01.0300-k9 and it seems to install with no problem.

When I reboot the server is when I have this issue: Version vpnclient-win-msi-4.8.01.0300-k9 automatically uninstalls itself when I login as administrator. This may be related to a Group Policy Object automatically uninstalling the client, but I haven’t been able to find anything in Active Directory yet. I have also tried vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.04.0300-k9 with the same result. So now I do not have a vpn client on our server anymore (hence our data is not getting updated). The State says they have seen this before & we will need to reinstall our OS to fix the issue (It's the main file server and a DC).

I'm NOT going to do that as there has to be a way to get this to work. This is a production server. Does anybody have any ideas? So here's a little more info on what I have tried. Safe mode did not let me install at all.

After running the commands listed in my above post, I received the following error: 'The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation' I scoured the internet looking for fixes (including the Local Security Policy/Software Restriction Policies) with nothing working. I'm pretty sure I update the NIC driver as well. Finally I decided to try in regular mode again. Still not luck.

The installer gets stuck a little more than halfway & then wmiprvse.exe starts eating processor time. So I decided to try the other Windows 2003 Server that sits right next to this one to see if I could get 5.0.07 installed. Same exact result.

So now I'm thinking this won't install correctly on Server 2003. Cisco says not at all: So I decided to try something.

I created a brand new virtual machine. Installed Server 2003. Installed 5.0.07. Tried to uninstall & install V4.8 NO issues. After trying to install/uninstall both versions in different scenarios, I didn't ever have any issues getting it installed.

Then I decided to install Server 2003 SP2. Both 4.8 & 5.0.07 install/uninstall on this server with NO issue. While we are trying to install this on another computer, somebody out there has to know what I need to edit to make this work. (I think it would be great to be able to FIX this.) I am anxiously waiting!
