The, which is scheduled to launch on April 1 st, will link immigrant entrepreneurs with private sector organizations that have expertise in working with start-up companies, the aim being to create Canadian jobs and promote global economic growth. Despite similar existing programs in the United Kingdom and Australia, the Start-Up Visa Program is the first of its kind—offering selected immigrant entrepreneurs immediate permanent resident status, access to a wide range of business partners, and other essential business resources. As with all the federal immigration programs, potential applicants of the Start-Up Visa Program will have to fulfill the following criteria before they are deemed entitled to apply: • Foreign entrepreneurs must have the support of a Canadian angel investor group, venture capital fund or a business incubator. • Foreign entrepreneurs must obtain intermediate proficiency in English or French, and at least one year of post-secondary education. [The formal criteria will be published in spring 2013].
